Pembroke Welsh Corgi

The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is highly intelligent, devoted and protective. There have been cases where some actually lost their lives when an attempt to defend their home. They are good “alarm” dogs, as they tend to bark a lot and are suspicious of strangers. They may attempt to herd people by nipping at their heel, but can be trained not to do this.

Originally bred to herd horses, sheep, and cattle, the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is eager to please and eager to learn. Though intelligent, they can be stubborn and like to think for themselves. Training is usually easy but they may have some difficulty with housetraining. They are happy dogs and make great family pets.

They are fearless, independent workers who love to have a job to do. Though small, they are very active dogs and do require moderate exercise. They get along well with other pets and are good with children.

Major Health Concerns: Prone to glaucoma. The Pembroke Welsh Corgi should not be overfed, as they tend to gain weight easily, which may lead to back problems.

Interesting Fact:
Corgis come in a variety of colors including Red, Sable, Fawn, Red-headed tricolor, and Black-headed tricolor.
